Resveratrol is a compound found largely in the skins of red grapes, is a component of Ko-jo-kon, an oriental medicine used to help fight diseases of the blood vessels, heart, and liver. It came
to scientific attention all over the mid-1990s as a imaginable explanation for the “French Paradox”—the low incidence of heart disease among the French people, who eat a relatively high-fat diet. While present in other plants, such as eucalyptus, spruce, and lily, and in other foods such as mulberries and peanuts, resveratrol’s most abundant natural sources are Vitis vinifera, labrusca, and muscadine grapes, which are used to make wines. It occurs in the vines, roots, seeds, and stalks, but its highest concentration is in the skin, which contains 50-100 micrograms per gram. Resveratrol is a phytoalexin, a class of antibiotic compounds produced as a part of a plant’s defense system against disease.
WHAT RESVERATROL CAN DO FOR YOU
It’s a fact, not all foods and supplements receive the same share of the spotlight, attention, or scrutiny. In spite of the ample scientific research in the back of it, one of the crucial overlooked is
Resveratrol. It may surprise you to learn that Resveratrol, most commonly associated with wine, has many benefits that may not only help you in your next go back and forth to the gym, but could also you
enhance your opportunity to age more gracefully.
Resveratrol is unique among antioxidants because it can cross the blood-brain barrier to help protect your brain and nervous system, and studies show that its benefits are wide reaching.
Resveratrol may Protect your cells from free radical damage, lowering your blood pressure, keep your heart healthy and reinforce elasticity in your blood vessels, normalize your anti-inflammatory
response, and may help with ALZ’s symptoms.
Resveratrol is proven to:
- Help Increase Fat Oxidation
- Increase Energy Levels
- Increase Metabolism
- Help Fight Fatigue
- Is a Natural Anti-Oxidant
- Is Healthy Weight Management
Because resveratrol appears to be so effective at warding off many diseases associated with aging, it is regularly referred to a “fountain of youth” that can extend lifespan. It has even been found
to increase the lifespan of human cells. In addition, Resveratrol also seems to produce many similar benefits as exercise, and so, would be a powerful addition to workout.
Pomegranate – The seeds of the Pomegranate fruit contain nearly 40 percent of the daily recommended amount of vitamin C, the seeds also work to lower blood pressure and satiate hunger because of
high levels of fiber. The antioxidants found, protect against dialysis-related infections, or kidney complications, as well as cardiovascular ones like high blood pressure. A study presented
during the 2010 annual meeting of the American Society of Nephrology found the potassium content in pomegranate juice reduces many of the dialysis-related complications for kidney patients,
otherwise showing a reduced morbidity rate.
Green Tea – If you look at the ingredients list for any fat burning supplement, chances are that green tea will be on there. This is because green tea has been shown to increase fat burning and
boost the metabolic rate, in humans. In one study of 10 healthy men, green tea increased energy expenditure by 4%. Another study showed that fat oxidation was increased by 17%, indicating that
green tea may selectively increase the burning of fat.
Quercetin – Quercetin is an flavonoid (plant pigment) commonly found in fruits and vegetables, especially onions, citrus, and apples. Other sources include dark berries, grapes and olive oil.
Studies have shown that the consumption of flavonoids, specifically quercetin, offer a two fold benefit in promoting overall cardiovascular health. First, it encourages blood drift. Secondly,
researchers have observed that quercetin’s antioxidant action protects against LDL cholesterol oxidation. This may be beneficial because oxidation causes LDL cholesterol to stick to artery
walls and not obstruct blood drift.
Grape Seed – Many people are interested in grape seed extract because it contains antioxidants. These are substances that protect cells from damage and may help prevent many diseases. The
antioxidants in grape seed extract may also, potentially, protect the blood vessels from becoming damaged, which may prevent high blood pressure. According to one study, grape seed
proanthocyanidin extract (GSPE) provides superior antioxidant efficacy as compared to Vitamins C, E and β-carotene.
Acai – Similar to red wine, research shows that Acai berries are extremely high in anthocyanins, a form of plant antioxidant associated with the ability to lower cholesterol levels in the blood
stream. They are also rich in plant Sterols that provide cardio-protective benefits to our cells. It does this by preventing blood clots, improving overall blood circulation, and relaxing the
blood vessels. Known by nutritionists as a super-food, Acai may help us not only lose weight, but maintain a healthy weight. One interesting study from the National Institutes of Aging found
that pulp from the Acai berry had the ability to reduce the negative effects of a high-fat diet.
