CLA or Conjugated Linoleic Acid: What is it?

CLA stands for conjugated linoleic acid. It is a naturally occurring trans-fatty acid made from the omega-6 class of essential fatty acids. Since it is not man-made, you should view it otherwise from classic “trans-fats,” which are almost certainly bad for your health. Alternatively, CLA may in reality be health-promoting. CLA is comprised of at least 28 isomers (different structural forms of the same molecule), and certain specific isomers may have different effects on the human body. On the other hand, since essentially all of the available CLA supplements contain a mixture of isomers, we can look at CLA as a whole instead of specific isomers. CLA is a short abbreviation for conjugated linoleic acid found in most diets. Since our bodies cannot make this fatty acid, it can only be acquired within the diet. Meat, cheese and dairy products, which are food from ruminant animals (animals that chew a cud) provide these food supplements.

CLA: Can This Fatty Acid Help You Get Thin:
CLA is related to the omega-6 fatty acids, one of the vital two types of essential fatty acids that help the body increase metabolic rates, boost the immune system and keep cholesterol levels in check. CLA is found in dairy and animal fats, such as beef, lamb, whole milk, and eggs, but cannot be produced by the human body. CLA not only reduces body fat but also increases muscle strength and exercise endurance.  According to the research project manager, individuals in the CLA group lost six more pounds of body fat, on average, compared to those in the placebo group.

Can CLA help with weight loss?
CLA is a lipid — that’s an organic substance that can’t be dissolved in water. Types of lipids include cholesterol, triglycerides, and fatty acids; CLA is a part of the fatty acid group. When taken as a supplement, CLA gets taken up into the body’s fat cells, where it can help break down stored fat and release it into the bloodstream. When taken alongside a healthy diet, CLA can be a catalyst, giving the body a helping hand burning fat. It sort of feels CLA has the ability to increase basal metabolic rates which means food is converted more efficiently into energy. This may, indeed, help to reduce body fat by keeping fat cells from increasing in size (rather than shrinking large fat cells). This has the effect of altering the body’s fat-to-muscle ratio. Studies suggest CLA also increases muscle strength which allows for increased and vigorous activity as well as endurance in an exercise program useful in weight loss and management.
CLA Bodybuilding Benefits:
CLA is a highly rated fat loss supplement. It is a fatty acid that has the ability to help increase muscle mass whilst burning fat at the same time. CLA encourages your body to burn stored fat as fuel. It protects existing muscle from being used as fuel and enhances recovery. “More muscle, less fat” is a common theme in bodybuilding circles. Resistance training, cardio, and a healthy diet and supplementation plan usually do the trick, but for an added boost to that time-tested formula, the healthy fat called conjugated linoleic acid — CLA for short — is definitely worth checking out.
CLA – Bigger and Leaner:

Supplemental CLA has been shown to decrease body fat when it’s combined with resistance training. One report in a 2001 issue of The Journal of International Medical Research showed that men and women who took 0.6 grams of CLA (as Tonalin, which contains equal parts c9,t11 and t10,c12) three times a day and combined that with regular workouts for 12 weeks lost body fat without a change in bodyweight. CLA use among athletes and mainstream fitness enthusiasts is increasing at an astonishing rate.
